Celebrating Circus

As part of this year’s Circus250 celebrations, Word2018 has a series of exhibitions, activities and events to enjoy – highlighting local connections and welcoming back festival favourites Upswing who are working with local young parents to create an original new show – A is for Adventure which premieres at Finsbury Library on 28 and 29 June.

…Also at Finsbury Library is a display – The Clerkenwell King of Clowns – Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837) – the father of modern clowning.  Grimaldi became a huge celebrity and spent much of his life both performing and living in Clerkenwell.  This commemorative display tells the story of this famous clown, who influenced circus clowns, and clowning across the world, and features contemporary illustrations and original documents from his life and work. (Until 3 July)
